What are the requirements to become a student in Canada?

Being a student in Canada is the opportunity to be in one of the countries with the highest quality of life, with high levels of teaching quality, practicing the English language in the country with the most favorable exchange rate for Brazilians and, mainly, expanding their experiences while improves your resume and your skills.

But in order to study in Canada, there are certain requirements you need to meet, in addition to choosing a course at any Canadian institution.

For courses lasting up to 06 (six) months, you will be able to apply and/or use your tourist visa to be able to attend your English course in the country.

For those who wish to study beyond 06 (six) months, it is also possible to obtain the “study permit” which is an authorization for you to work while studying.

And if you need to, CanCampus Canada works together with CLIS – Canadian Legal Immigration Services, which can help you get your visa.

And what are the requirements?

1st – Canadian School Approval

To enter Canada, the first requirement is passing a Canadian school.

The application process in a college or university for undergraduate and graduate courses needs to be done well in advance of the start of the academic year. There is colleges and universities that start enrollment up to a year and a half before the start of the academic year, and this is extremely important to guarantee your place.

Throughout the application process, various information such as educational background, parentage, personal documentation are required.

At the end, with all the documentation approved by the institution, an acceptance letter is issued so that you can apply for your study visa and even the “study permit”.

2nd – Financial Evidence

Financial proof is requested simultaneously during the acceptance process of the educational institution of your choice and also with the issuance of your student visa and/or "study permit.”

This is necessary because when signing up for the college or university, you must pay the tuition fees, including the course, with the institution you are applying to.

When applying for a student visa and/or "study permit”, financial proof is required through amounts available in bank accounts, financial assets and other assets that allow you to prove your financial condition.

Canadian immigration uses as a reference, the minimum value of C$ 1,200.00 (one thousand two hundred Canadian dollars) per month to be proven. Therefore, your financial and bank documents need to consider this amount multiplied by the period you are in the country, which can be converted to the exchange rate on the day you removed your documentation and/or presented it to immigration.

If you do not have the required immigration fees, Canadian immigration still allows you to have someone who is financially responsible for you. In this case, there are other documents to be presented, in addition to those that demonstrate your financial proof.

3rd – Professional History

Professional history is not a necessary prerequisite for you to have your study visa approved, either because you do not yet have solid work experience or because you have unpaid prior experience and/or that meets Canadian immigration requirements such as thirty (30) weekly hours or more of hiring by a company/paying source.

If your professional background is extremely relevant to Canadian immigration from the perspective of your need to study in Canada. It's important to keep in mind the “why” you want to study in Canada by demonstrating to immigration something like a “career plan” that demonstrates your long-term goals linked to your course.
