Co-Operative Education<\/em> or in Portuguese Cooperative Education, the co-op<\/em> it can be an interesting option for those who want to do an exchange in Canada and at the same time work legally in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to highlight that the co-op<\/em> is a component or extension of a course that takes place in Canada and not the course itself, and can be offered either by Colleges<\/em> private as well as public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first step to working in Canada by co-op<\/em>, is to choose the type of course you want to take, which may be in the area of Business<\/em>, Customer Service<\/em>, Hospitality, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to remember that exchange programs for English or French courses are not eligible for the program. co-op<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does the co-op<\/em> In Canada<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courses that offer the option of co-op<\/em> they are structured so that the student can study and work part-time, or up to 20 (twenty) hours per week in any company or institution in the area that is in the same segment of the course, thus aligning theory with practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is up to the student whether he wishes to do the co-op<\/em>, as this is a component offered in the course. Thus, as they are aligned between the institution, the company and the student, it is very similar to the internship that is offered at Brazilian colleges and universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Differences between the co-op<\/em> and PGWP Work Visa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PGWP, or Post-Graduation Work Permit<\/em>, is a visa that allows you to work after graduating in Canada for a period of between 08 months and 03 years. To obtain your PGWP, the completed course must have the following characteristics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Be full time;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Minimum of 08 months of duration;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– college<\/em> public, or private with public funds;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– college<\/em> subscribed to the DLI list, or Designated<\/em> Learning Institution.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that it is possible to take a program co-op<\/em> and after its completion apply for the PGWP, if your program allows this visa application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the workload performed during the course and the co-op<\/em>, which are part-time, are not counted towards scoring your permanent immigration process to Canada, if that is your interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only through the PGWP, which allows the work full-time<\/em> or up to 40 hours per week, that work experience is considered for purposes of permanent immigration to Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the benefits of making a co-op<\/em>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many benefits of making a co-op<\/em> in Canada, ranging from getting the most out of the course to the dream job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When making a co-op<\/em>, you will have an accelerated learning curve, as you can apply to your supervised work what is learned in the classroom. Remember that studying in English, in a new country and with a completely different culture, makes the co-op<\/em> become an opportunity for you to learn and apply faster the technical language, the tools applied in your training area and everything else that a future profession may require, in a quick, simple way and with the support of the school and the environment of Work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through co-op<\/em>, the student will receive the support of the institution that chose to achieve their insertion in the labor market. Upon entering the labor market, it will significantly expand the network, allowing access both for teachers and mainly for employers and future employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This way, the career will start in a more sustainable and planned way, besides being able to work in a legal way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
